Can you block YouTube ads?
We can’t remove ads inside YouTube, Instagram or TikTok. Here’s why and what we do instead.
We can’t remove ads inside YouTube, Instagram or TikTok. Those apps deliver ads from the same servers as the videos and posts, so blocking the ads would mean breaking the app or reading encrypted traffic. We refuse to read encrypted traffic, for security, legal and privacy reasons.
What we do instead: we block ads and tracking from Meta, TikTok, Snap and X inside other apps and websites, enforce YouTube Restricted Mode, and can block these apps entirely for younger children. For ad-free YouTube we recommend YouTube Premium Family.
Does Kidova block Facebook ads?
Kidova blocks Facebook ads and tracking in other apps and websites, for example Meta ads in free games and the Meta Pixel on websites. It can’t remove sponsored posts inside the Facebook and Instagram apps themselves. Blocking Meta tracking can also turn off “Log in with Facebook” buttons on other sites; you can allow them with one switch.
Can my child switch Kidova off?
Not without you. Child mode is locked with your permission: on Android through device admin and the always-on VPN setting, on iPhone through Apple’s Screen Time controls. If protection stops on a child’s device, you’re told, and the tamper timeline shows what happened.
No protection is impossible to get around: a factory reset or a second device can bypass any app. We tell you when that happens instead of promising the impossible.
Why is ad blocking missing in the Google Play version?
Google Play doesn’t allow apps to block ads in other apps. The Play version therefore has the VPN and kids protection only. The direct Android download from kidova.com includes ad blocking; it updates itself and is signed by us.
Does it work on iPhone as well as on Android?
Yes. Web and content filtering, SafeSearch and ad blocking happen on our servers, so iPhones and Android phones get the same protection. App time limits use each system’s own tools. Ad blocking inside the App Store version depends on Apple’s review; if Apple declines it, you can switch it on with a DNS profile from our website.
What can I see about my child?
Counts per category, protection status, and requests your child sends you. Not a list of websites. If you switch on detail mode (Family Plus), blocked site names are kept for 7 days, and your child is told.
Does Kidova read messages or track location?
No. Kidova doesn’t read messages, take screenshots, log keystrokes or track location. Your child always sees that Kidova is active.
Will it slow down our internet?
Kidova uses WireGuard, a fast, modern VPN protocol, and our servers are in Germany, close to families in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Further away, the extra distance adds some delay; there you can use Shield Lite, which protects through DNS only and keeps your local speed.
Where is our data stored?
Only in German data centers. We keep counts, not browsing histories. Read our privacy promise.
